The much-anticipated Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans make a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
